About the Nutrition Program‚Äč

The nutrition program, offered by Kankakee County Community Service, Inc., serves the entire County of Will.  Nutrition services are provided to assist older Americans to live independently by promoting better health through improved nutrition and reduced isolation through a program coordinated with other supportive services.

There are two nutrition programs: Home Delivered Meals and Congregate Dining.

Our meals are designed to be nutritious and cater to the adult appetite. The menu is low in salt, calorie-controlled and individually portioned. Most importantly, each meal is nutritionally balanced and tasty. We also offer a diabetic dessert for appropriate clients.

A complete nutritional analysis is available for clients to discuss with their physician or dietitian.

The nutrition program is a donation based program. All participants are asked to make a donation towards the cost of the meal. No one will be denied services if they are unable or unwilling to make a donation.
  • Home Delivered Meal participants are sent a monthly donation reminder. The donation reminder indicates the amount of meals that were served and a total suggested donation. Cash, Checks, Visa and Mastercard credit cards are accepted for monthly donations.
  • Congregate Dining locations have a suggested donation that is posted at each site. All donations are confidential. Cash and Checks are gladly accepted.

Home Delivered Meals

Individuals who are homebound and interested in receiving meals must be assessed to determine if they qualify for the "Meals on Wheels" program. Assessments and qualifications are conducted and determined by Case Coordination Units (Case Managers) with the Senior Services Center of Will County (815) 740-4225.

Congregate Dining

Individuals 60 years of age or older and their spouse or caregiver are welcome to join any of our dining locations. Reservations are needed at least three (3) days in advance.  Most luncheons are served at 11:30 am. A registration form will need to be completed for all first time participants. The site manager will have forms available at the location of you choice. Click "Contact Us" for locations and phone numbers.
